Since 1965, all municipalities in New Hampshire have had the responsibility to license automotive recycling facilities, also known as junkyards, at the local level.  This responsibility is contained in RSA Chapter 236 sections 111 through 129.  It applies to all municipalities, whether or not there is a local zoning ordinance.

Join NHDES’s Motor Vehicle Salvage Yard Program Coordinator, Laurel Pushee, and Brian Winslow of Turnpike Auto Parts in New Ipwish and director of the Auto and Truck Recyclers Association of New Hampshire (ATRANH), who will discuss, in general terms, compliance requirements of motor vehicle salvage yards and the program’s Best Management Practices (BMPs).  These BMPs have been developed by the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services over many years and are designed to protect public health and the environment.

Our experts will also outline each party’s responsibility for operating, licensing and certifying compliance at the local level.
