Red Cross Honors Deerfield Police and Fire Personnel for Heroic Rescue
The American Red Cross (ARC) Granite Chapter has honored several groups of local heroes, including Deerfield Police and Fire Department personnel. Last November, community members were invited to identify their local, unsung heroes for recognition by the ARC Granite Chapter. “We believe that too often these local heroes go unnoticed when, instead, they should be recognized and appreciated,” said Maria White, chief executive officer of the ARC-New Hampshire Region. Nominations were collected over a two-month period, and groups were selected based upon their humanitarian work done for others.
Additional 2010 Heroes recognized by the ARC Granite Chapter this spring include Merrimack County Department of Corrections employees Corporal Saverio DiSaverio, Officer Lori Rheaume and Nurse Karen Rainville. The three are credited with saving the life of a Merrimack County Jail inmate, who collapsed due to cardiac arrest last September, by jointly deploying swift emergency response training techniques.
