General Statement of Duties:
Performs mechanical maintenance and repair on Wastewater equipment; performs directly related work as required.
Examples of Essential Work:
- Trouble shoots and diagnoses equipment when malfunction occurs, including using automated control system to aid in locating problems and determining appropriate methods of repair;
- Disassembles equipment and rebuilds, repairs and/or replaces necessary parts;
- Inspects and checks performance of equipment using precision instruments, including micrometer and vernier scale;
- Fabricates parts and special tools needed to perform repairs or to rebuild equipment according to self-design or blueprint specifications, including welding metallic materials and operating various metal working machinery, including vertical milling machine, lathe, metal shear and drill press;
- Maintains records of performance checks and service to equipment;
- Installs and repairs pipes, valves, pressure regulators and heat exchangers on air, water, hydraulic, chemical and gas systems;
- Operates safety equipment, including self-contained air packs, monitoring instruments and related;
- Performs repairs in hazardous areas;
- Reviews and interprets blueprints, plans and specifications to determine tolerance and procedures for proper operation and maintenance/repair of equipment;
- Estimates time, parts, tools and equipment needed for repair and maintenance projects and completes appropriate forms to obtain items;
- Performs skilled trades, including plumbing, masonry and carpentry;
- Provides input on safety operations within assigned area;
- Makes recommendations as to changes and modifications to improve performance and maximize the operational life of equipment;
- Provides input on specifications for new equipment;
- Performs duties of WWTP Operator as needed;
- Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions;
- Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems;
- Attends meetings, conferences, workshops and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on the principles, practices and new developments in assigned work areas;
- Responds to questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner;
- Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities;
- Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.
Acceptable Experience and Training:
- Graduation from High School or possession of a GED; and
- Considerable experience and specialized training in industrial maintenance or a related field; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Required Special Qualifications:
- Valid New Hampshire Driver’s License.
