Public Works Director

The Town of Brookline is seeking a full-time Public Works Director to perform administrative and professional work associated with the operations and management of Brookline Public Works and Transfer Station, which includes streets, roads, and bridges; solid waste disposal and recycling; maintenance of town vehicles and equipment; buildings and grounds; and cemeteries. The Director will oversee the employees of the transfer station and two public works employees, with the possibility of hiring additional employees in 2024. 

Activities will be conducted with considerable operational independence and personal judgment under the general administrative direction of the Selectboard. The position reports to the Selectboard.  

Minimum qualifications for the position include an Associate degree, including course work in civil engineering, and at least five years’ experience in construction and/or operational public works OR any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must be available for 24-hour emergency calls. Must have or be able to obtain a DOT medical card. A minimum of CDL-B license is required. 

This is an exempt position with a starting pay range of $80,000-$100,000 depending on experience and qualifications. As a full-time position, it is eligible for health, dental, short- term and long-term disability, and life insurance. The position is also eligible for participation in the NH Retirement System. 

The Town does not have a requirement for applicants to live within a certain distance from town however more local employees are preferred.
