Public Works Director
The Town of Falmouth, population 32,000 (100,000 during tourist season), is currently accepting applications for a Public Works Director. The Public Works Department is a full service department which includes the following divisions: water, wastewater, parks, highway, engineering, solid waste, administration and facilities. This key management position is responsible for providing highly responsible and professional leadership in directing all divisions of the department. Scope of responsibilities includes: plans, organizes, and directs the Public Works Department to deliver effective public works services; preparation of annual and capital budget; prepares request for proposals for DPW projects; responds to controversial inquiries from the public pertaining to departmental projects and policies; prepares and plans the annual road program and cost estimates; attends board meetings; coordinates and directs capital and operational programs for water and sewer programs; establishes snow and ice operations and all other related duties. Bachelor’s Degree in business, public administration, civil engineering or related field; ten years of responsible experience in public administration, at least three of which involve public works. Previous experience in the management of a water supply treatment system and waste water collection/treatment system or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of public works management, financing and administration; knowledge of equipment specifications and uses; knowledge of personnel management, collective bargaining processes and purchasing procedures; thorough knowledge of safety procedures, including confined space protocols; knowledge of Massachusetts General Laws pertaining to public works. Considerable knowledge of the operation of public water and wastewater facilities. Knowledge of federal and state regulations governing utilities systems. The salary range for this position is up to $97,572-$127,337 DOQ and a competitive benefit package. Final candidates will be asked to participate in an Assessment Center.
