The Campton Police Department is seeking a professional and motivated individual to fill a full-time benefited position as the Executive Secretary to the Chief of Police. The ideal candidate will have excellent personal, communication, and organizational skills as well as an ability to work both independently and as a member of a team. Preference will be given to candidates with secretarial, legal, and clerical experience along with proficiency in typing and using computer software including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, and other record management systems. The ability to maintain confidentiality and security of department records and knowledge is required, along with the maturity to handle exposure to cases involving very difficult and sensitive situations. Candidates are required to successfully pass a background investigation prior to employment.
The Executive Secretary performs clerical work associated with Police Department activities and the following duties are considered essential to the position;
Prepare and type correspondence, reports, tabulations, requests, permits, and court documents.
Attend to many items simultaneously and/or in sequence.
Work as a member of a team, or individually, sometimes under adverse or stressful conditions.
Establish and maintain files on department, court and officer activities.
Establish and maintain files for offense reports, permits, citations, and warnings.
Read, interpret and appropriately apply rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Maintain and retrieve statistical information of the department for statistical and special reports.
Input and maintain NCIC information.
Respond to the queries from the public, other departments, the courts, insurance companies, and lawyers.
Answer telephone calls requesting police service sometimes under adverse or stressful conditions and effectively relay information to Officers in the field.
Maintain proficiency in the operation of computers and data entry system.
Maintain confidentiality and security of the department information, equipment, and facilities.
Process all requests for documents, copies, reports, and records from insurance companies, the courts, attorneys, and the public in accordance with department rules and regulations.
Maintain effective working relationships with other agencies, departments, organizations, employees, and the general public.
Starting pay is $18-$21/hour dependent on qualifications and experience. Employees receive a benefits package to include 13 paid holidays, vacation leave, accrued sick leave, personal leave and enrollment in the NH Retirement System. The starting pay is negotiable based on experience level. Employees are offered a choice of health insurance plans with either 93% or 85% of the monthly premium covered by the Town. Employees who are covered by another health insurance plan receive an additional $5,100 annually.
