Education Manager
Position Summary: The Education Assistant will support the Education Manager and education team at the Northeast Resource Recovery Association with the execution of its United States Department of Agriculture grant PRAPSE: Promoting Recycling at Public Spaces and Events. The grant involves education and outreach in targeted rural and low-income communities and schools in NH, VT, and MA with a focus on (1) waste reduction, recycling, and composting at public events, and (2) best practices for managing aggravating components, including glass, e-waste, and pharmaceuticals. The Education Assistant will assist with research, planning and events from January through September 30, 2020.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Special Events:
- Research and prepare a spreadsheet of events, dates, and organizers with contact information in targeted communities, including old home days, fairs, farmer’s markets throughout NH, VT, and MA.
- Contact those organizers to assist with recycling planning for special events.
- Assist with recycling planning for special events.
- Battery E-waste
- Assist with researching targeted communities and types of e-waste and battery programs in place.
- Assist with writing an operator training module for battery management.
- Scrap Metal Processors
- Assist with researching scrap metal processors in targeted states.
- Indoor Air Quality
- Establish advocacy for healthier school environments to reduce toxic chemicals in the waste stream.
- Encourage green cleaning practices and understand common pollutants indoors.
- Reinforce the importance of environmental vigilance using NRRA’s Indoor Air Quality and Star assessments.
- Other Duties as Required
- All staff assist with NRRA’s Annual Conference as needed

Qualifications and Skills Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in appropriate field related to education, environmental studies or natural resources
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and attention to details
- Self-motivated, willing to accept a challenge and able to handle multiple priorities
- Ability to communicate effectively with people of various backgrounds and interests
- Valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle
- Enthusiasm for sharing the value of waste reduction, including recycling and composting
- Familiarity with recycling issues and composting are a plus
Working Conditions:
- Combination of office work, travel to schools and recycling centers for meetings
- Occasional overnight travel may be required
- Travel and outdoors work in inclement weather on occasion (including extreme heat and cold)
- Environmentally conscious office culture within 15 minutes of downtown Concord, NH
- Occasional early morning, evening and weekend work required
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to drive throughout New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts to school workshops, events and conferences
- Capable for standing for upwards of 8 hours at a time
- Ability to lift 25 pounds
