Director of Code Enforcement

The Town of Ogunquit is accepting applications for the position of Director of Code Enforcement. Ogunquit is a small seacoast community with a year-round population of 1,200 people that expands to over 40,000 seasonal resident visitors during the summer season, and many business and commercial establishments particularly in the hospitality industry.  

The successful candidate will have excellent internal and external communications skills, and be results driven.

Requirements:   In addition, the Director of Codes must have:

  • Considerable knowledge of approved methods, materials, and practices used in building construction and plumbing installation and repair.
  • Considerable knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations governing construction, use, and occupancy, and ability to interpret the same.
  • Considerable knowledge of town land use ordinance provisions and the ability to interpret the same.
  • Extensive knowledge of various computer software programs including Microsoft Office and the skills to operate a computer and other office equipment efficiently.
  • Knowledge of field safety

Education/Licenses

  • High School diploma or equivalent, with a two-year vocational program in building construction, structural design
  • Three (3) years’ experience in the construction industry or as a journeyman electrician or plumber
  • Effective supervisory experience required; or any equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Current valid State of Maine driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Certified Code Enforcement Officer and Local Plumbing Inspector, or the ability to obtain the certification within 12 months of hire
