Custodian (Part-time)

WORK SCHEDULE:

Position is a part time position that requires ten (10) or more hours per week to perform the essential job functions and responsibilities. Position is classified as non-exempt in accordance with overtime provisions of the FLSA.

 JOB SUMMARY

Performs a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks in the custodial care and maintenance of Town buildings.

 SUPERVISION RECEIVED

 Works under the general supervision of the Public Works Foreman.

 SUPERVISION EXERCISED

 None.

  EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

 (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all duties which may be found in positions of this class.)

 Sweeps, vacuums, mops, dust, strips, waxes, polishes, and buffs floors, carpets, and furniture, etc.

 Dumps garbage cans and relines cans with liners.

 Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and replenishes supplies, cleans spills, cleans mirrors, tables, walls, fixtures, blinds, light fixtures, etc.

 Washes windows, walls, metal and woodwork.

 Inspects and maintains assigned custodial equipment and small tools for proper operating condition.

 Opens and closes, locks and unlocks facilities as needed.

 Picks up litter from around the building and grounds.

 Sweeps and clears snow from sidewalks and porches of assigned buildings.

 Performs additional functions and responsibilities as assigned or required. 

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

 Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building cleaning and maintenance; some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions; ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time; ability to communicate orally and in writing; ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely; ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; ability to establish effective working relationships.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

 Any combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work.

 TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

 Vacuum, mops, broom, dusting equipment, etc.

 The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works primarily inside. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.

 The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
