Conservation Land Manager (Part-Time)

The Town of Derry Conservation Commission is seeking a Part Time Conservation Land Manager, up to 20 hours per month. The Conservation Land Manager will work under the direction of the Conservation Commission in coordination with the Derry Parks and Recreation Departments. This position is a uniformed and primarily in-field position, with some office responsibilities.

Field duties include:

• Coordinating and assisting in land management projects and trail maintenance activities
• Compiling monitoring report data
• Managing the community garden at Broadview
• Patrolling conservation lands on foot or bicycle to educate the public on trail regulations
• Providing community outreach and support during events such as Derry Fest and the Police Department Community Strolls.

Office duties include:

• Completing monitoring reports for each property as required
• Filing documents internally and sharing with external partners
• Coordinating RFP requests and bids, as needed
• Attending Conservation Commission Meetings monthly to update the commission on duties performed
• Attending training seminars to remain current and knowledgeable of new laws, regulations, and conservation best practices.

Requirements:

The successful candidate must:

• Function independently and as a member of a field crew
• Communicate effectively with the public
• Be proficient in MS Office Suite
• Have 1-3 years’ experience in natural resource management
• Perform physical labor in all weather conditions
• Have experience using and maintaining power equipment (such as chainsaws) as well as knowledge of trail upkeep tasks (trimming, bridge building, erosion control)
• Pass an extensive background investigation and pre-employment drug screen
