Community Development Program Manager
The Town of Salem, NH (population 32,000) seeks a full-time (37.5 hours/week) Community Development Program Manager to manage the activities of the department with emphasis on strategic and long-range planning, community infrastructure, economic development, re-development, conservation of natural resources, and other related functions. A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with 3-5 years of experience in a responsible municipal planning or community development role or an equivalent combination and a valid driver’s license is required.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills: The candidate should be able to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders, including community members, volunteers, local organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders. The ability to listen, empathize, and build relationships is essential for creating a sense of trust and engagement among the community.
- Experience in community development or related field: Ideally, the candidate should have experience working in a community development role or related field, such as social work, public administration, or urban planning. This experience can include organizing community events, conducting community outreach, facilitating community meetings, and managing community programs.
- Knowledge of community development principles and strategies: The candidate should have a strong understanding of community development principles, such as asset-based community development, participatory planning, and community organizing. They should also be familiar with relevant laws and regulations, such as zoning and land use laws, affordable housing policies, and environmental regulations. This knowledge will enable the candidate to effectively navigate complex community dynamics and identify opportunities for positive change.
Pay range $34.97 to $46.47/hourly dependent upon qualifications and experience with competitive benefits including participation in the NH Retirement System. Pre-employment testing will include educational and criminal background, and motor vehicle records.
