NATURE OF WORK
Incumbent in this position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of water treatment facilities, pump stations, well sites, and storage tanks that supply drinking water to the City of Portsmouth and the Pease International Tradeport. This includes optimizing treatment processes to ensure that the quality of treated water meets all applicable rules and regulations. The Chief is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data related to system operations, directing staff, and assisting with the preparation of reports as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A candidate for this position must have a high school diploma and at least five (5) years of experience in the operations of a water treatment facility. An Associate’s Degree or higher in Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field is preferred.
The candidate must be certified as a New Hampshire Water Treatment Operator Grade III and obtaining additional certification or licensing may be required.
The role requires a working knowledge of water chemistry, water treatment operations, mechanical systems, and laboratory procedures. Strong management, problem-solving skills and computer proficiency are essential. The candidate should be able to prepare accurate reports and have familiarity with electrical and SCADA systems.
An incumbent must possess a valid driver’s license and have no offenses which would prohibit or restrict insurability by any insurance carrier providing coverage to the City.
The candidate must have no prior offenses that would prevent them from obtaining a Security Identification Display Area badge for airfield access.
