Chief Financial Officer

The City of Nashua, NH with an annual budget of approximately $475 million, seeks a highly qualified professional to join its management team as the Chief Financial Officer. This position is appointed by the Mayor.

JOB SUMMARY AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Mayor, this position oversees the Financial Services Division and the operations, management, and functions of the Financial Reporting, Treasurer, and Tax Collector Offices. The CFO provides financial leadership and collaborates with other departments to integrate financial considerations into decision-making processes. This position will also advise the Mayor and committees of the Board of Aldermen on the financial aspects of pending resolutions and ordinances as applicable. In addition, the CFO monitors applicable state legislation and market conditions.

This position is responsible for ensuring that programs and functions are carried out efficiently and completely so that fiscal and statistical responsibilities are realized. Other responsibilities of this position include: preparation for the Mayor's proposed annual budget; long-range financial planning; coordination, analysis, and negotiation of all new debt instruments; and development of fiscal performance measurements.

This is a full-time Unaffiliated position, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, and provides an excellent work life balance. The position is grade 22, salary dependent upon experience.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field. Master's Degree a plus
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in municipal finance preferred
  • Knowledge of applicable City and state laws and regulations governing the City's activities, GASB and GAAP standards, financial management, administration, and investments
  • Ability to define issues, analyze information and problems, present proposals and recommended courses of action, development and implement departmental procedures
  • Effective management and supervisory experience
  • Ability to use tact, discretion, and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive situations and concerned individuals and customers, both internal and external
