Cataloging and Information Services Librarian - PT

Position:     CATALOGING AND INFORMATION SERVICES LIBRARIAN (Librarian I) – Part-Time, Bedford Public Library

Salary:        $24.58 – $35.37 per hour 

TYPICAL DUTIES:

The Bedford Public Library seeks a friendly and adaptable professional librarian to work part-time in our Technical Services Department, with weekly hours on the Information Services Desk. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

ü  Responsible for cataloging and classification of monographs, serials, and various other library materials according to established local and national standards and for general database maintenance.

ü  Provide regular repair and preservation of the library collection to make it accessible and appealing to readers, including mending of materials.

ü  Keep abreast of cataloging rules, local/national standards and trends, as well as emerging technologies such as Bibframe and linked data.

ü  Assist patrons of all ages with print and electronic resources, including online databases, the Polaris online catalog, and the Library’s eBook services at the reference desk (approximately 6-8 hours/week).

ü  Participate in collection development and programming teams.

The part-time position will require one night per week and one Saturday and one Sunday per month in a rotation. The Library is open to the public 62 hours per week.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must have proficiency with technology, including tablet computers, virtual meeting platforms, and Microsoft Office and should possess a comprehensive knowledge of cataloging principles and procedures, with a ready understanding of key cataloging resources and guidelines including but not limited to classification systems, RDA, AACR2, OCLC and Connexion. Applicants must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and sensitively when responding to patron queries. Knowledge of the Polaris ILS is helpful. Bachelor’s Degree is required. MLS or MLS candidate who has completed their cataloging coursework is preferred.
