JOB SUMMARY AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Benefits Manager, the Benefits Specialist administers employee benefits for the City and the Nashua School District (3000 active employees and 1000 retirees). This position will work with retirees; meeting with retirees turning 65 to review over 65 health plan and general Medicare rules, ensures benefit forms are properly completed for health, dental, vision, life insurance, New Hampshire Retirement System or DPW Retirement plan, and deferred compensation plan, applies monthly retiree payments into HRIS system. This position assists in resolving benefit related issues, with active employees and retirees. Performs other related duties. This is a full-time Unaffiliated position, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, and provides an excellent work life balance. The position is a grade 12, with an hourly rate dependent upon experience.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- New Hampshire Retirement System experience is highly desirable
- Proven HR and Payroll Information Systems literacy (Lawson experience preferred)
- Thorough knowledge of MS Professional Office Suite, specifically Excel
- Possess ability to be accurate, pay close attention to detail, be flexible, able to work both independently and as a team member
- Have ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with difficult situations
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, vendors, consultants and regulatory personnel
