Assistant Town Clerk/Tax Collector
The Town of York, a coastal community comprised of the villages of Cape Neddick, York Harbor, York Village and York Beach, is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Town Clerk/Tax Collector.
This is a clerical position responsible for the collection of taxes and fees levied by the Town and duties affiliated with elections and licensing. Employees in this position may be assigned responsibility for a specific area such as collection of real and personal property taxes, excise taxes, or as a motor vehicle agent. Work responsibilities include the sales, computer posting, and filing of hunting, fishing, and dog licenses; cross-referencing and processing of absentee ballots; voter registration and vote tabulation, and other projects and responsibilities as assigned by the Town Clerk. Work involves the handling of funds and preparation of standard forms and receipts. Work is reviewed based on results achieved, reports and through audits. This position requires extensive customer service with the public and tax-payers. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Town Clerk/Tax Collector in accordance with Town, State and federal laws, but also requires the ability to work independently following established procedures and routines.
Graduation from accredited high school, supplemented by courses in bookkeeping and commercial subjects and experience in the keeping and recording of financial transactions, or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Accounting experience also desirable.
The position is a full-time (37.5 hours per week), non-exempt, non-bargaining, position. Flexibility to work increased hours during elections and other increased business periods required.
