Assistant Finance Manager

ASSISTANT FINANCE MANAGER.  The Town of Alton is accepting resumes for the position of Assistant Finance Manager.  This position reports to the Finance Manager and works in the Finance Office at the Town Hall located at 1 Monument Square in Alton. 

Duties and responsibilities include A/P, payroll, a thorough understanding of accounting and finance principals, problem solving, and act as a backup to the Finance Manager during absences. Duties also include conducting research assignments that may involve deadlines, and assist and backup the Administration Department staff. The position also includes additional responsibilities such as assisting the Cemetery Department with the processing of sales, burials, paperwork, coordinating everything with the Cemetery Sexton, assisting the public with general inquiries relating to lot sales and cemetery questions.

Qualities include proficiency, responsibility, organization, and attention to detail, good work ethic, positive attitude, an understanding of and compliance with confidentiality, trustworthiness, team player, excellent verbal communications, courtesy, and attention to a variety of complex financial and administrative tasks.

Recommended requirements for the ideal candidate include three years’ experience in the finance field with municipal finance experience preferred; experience or knowledge with BMSI financial software including payroll, A/P, budget; other financial software knowledge and experience is helpful; Microsoft Office knowledge and experience is required.  A standard knowledge and experience with office equipment operations.  Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, will be considered.

The position is full-time at 40 hours per week.  Overtime is rare and only on an as-needed basis.  The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm.  The position includes a competitive benefit package.  Applicants must pass a full background check upon or prior to a conditional offer of employment.  Starting hourly rate is $18.83.
