Town Planner

Milford, the hub of the Souhegan Valley, is seeking a full-time qualified and creative Town Planner  to be responsible for land-use planning and environmental programs on behalf of the Office of Community Development. This diversified position manages the review and analysis of the Town's permitting for land use and development applications; assists and provides guidance/recommendations and reports to Town boards, commissions, committees, developers, land owners, and the general public on Town regulations, policies, and land use information.  The creative Town Planner  prepares and writes documents relative to short-term and long-range planning regulations, codes, and policies; attends and participates at meetings. The position is also responsible for the management, organized planning, and mobilization of efforts in compliance with the Town's Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit program.

Minimum requirements include a Bachelor's Degree in urban, city, and/or environmental planning and four years of related experience in municipal planning.  Master's Degree in urban and regional planning and related experience is preferred.  Extensive knowledge of land use and environmental planning principles and practices, as well as state and local land use legislation, procedures, codes, standards for development, and zoning issues is essential, as is the ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally. Candidates should have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with local, regional, and state officials, the general public, employees, developers, and consultants. The successful applicant must be customer-service oriented and thrive in a team environment. Knowledge of surveying, environmental and civil engineering a plus. The position reports to the Director of Community Development, and is part of a progressive team that includes community development, building and code enforcement, environmental programs, and conservation.

This is a full-time exempt position within the Town's compensation structure.  The salary range for this position is $55,000 - $63,000 depending on qualifications and experience and includes full Town benefits and NHRS participation.
