Child Care Specialist

On a daily basis this position is hands on working in the department’s Out of School Time (OST) preschool childcare programs.  

We have two positions - One for Ages 1-4 and one for Grades K-5.  Please see our website for more information.  

  • On a daily basis is hands on working with children in the childcare programs.
  • Coordinates and develops preschool programming and thematic lesson plans to encourage appropriate socialization skills, positive behavior, and good manners.
  • Creates a mentally stimulating environment through various methods such as storytelling, games, arts & crafts, and interactive activities.
  • Assist as needed in coordination of the arrival and departure of children from program activities.
  • Ensures activities and programs comply with department safety policies and procedures.
  • Provides a pleasant, safe, and sanitary classroom environment.
  • Identifies behavior problems and working with the OST Director develops appropriate strategies to address them.
  • Assists the Childcare Specialists (Grades K-5) or (Ages 1-4) in the completion of their duties on an as needed basis.
  • Coordinates the use, maintenance, and storage of a variety of supplies and recreation equipment.
  • Provides direct functional supervision to assigned lead counselors and counselors on site at programs.
  • Responds to and resolves problems and concerns while working in the programs.
  • Providing basic care for children to include feeding, grooming, diaper changes.
  • Other duties may include weekly supply shopping, welcome desk coverage, baking, and possibility of incorporating special interests/talents.
  • Conducts program registrations using specific software, which includes taking in fees, giving out   information for programs and keeping accurate records.
  • Ability to carry out assigned projects efficiently and to their completion.
  • May assist in the set up/take down of equipment for programs at the Community Center and for special HPR events.
  • Assist during some HPR special events to provide programmatic needs.
  • Attends staff meetings and training workshops as needed.
  • Ability to establish and maintain courteous effective working relationships with coworkers, volunteers, and the general public.
  • Performs related work as required for the effective operation of the department.
