Disability
When serious illness or an accident strikes, financial considerations can extend well beyond medical coverage. Disability insurance provides valuable financial protection to help disabled members pay for day-to-day living expenses that medical insurance does not cover, such as mortgage, rent, utilities, or groceries.
Without disability income protection, even a relatively short absence from work can be financially devastating. With comprehensive coverage that encourages and supports recovery, member groups covered under LGC HealthTrust disability programs benefit from a positive focus on the employee's return to work and a productive lifestyle.
LGC HealthTrust provides two disability offerings to help meet diverse member group needs: The short-term plan is designed for an individual member who becomes disabled through
illness or injury while away from work, and will recover in a matter of weeks; the long-term plan picks up where short-term disability leaves off, and includes special features and exceptions that accommodate the individual as well as the member group.
SHORT-TERM DISABILITY PROGRAM
In the event that sickness or injury prevents an employee from being able to work, LGC HealthTrust's self-insured, self-administered, short-term disability program provides benefits for 13- or 26-week periods. Members may select a waiting period after which pay is continued. For example, pay could be provided at up to 66 2/3 percent of compensation, to a maximum of $600 per week.
Short-term disability programs are administered by dedicated LGC HealthTrust program coordinators. Our team of experienced professionals can also help make transitioning from a short- to a long-term disability program a seamless experience.
LONG-TERM DISABILITY PROGRAM
Becoming disabled for longer than six months can have serious financial implications for any individual or family. While some members can tap into their savings to get by without working, few people can afford to stop working altogether for an extended period of time.
The long-term disability program provides up to 60 percent of a member's salary, to a maximum of $6,000 per month, for as long as the member is disabled, or until he or she reaches age 65, subject to policy guidelines and rules.
This program offers special features such as access to consulting physicians and Social Security specialists, as well as job training and back-to-work programs. Benefits payable through LGC HealthTrust's plan may be offset by other disability benefits, including Social Security or Workers' Compensation. Some limitations apply in the event of mental illness or drug/alcohol abuse.
