Dear NHMA Member:

As you may know, the New Hampshire Municipal Association recently went through a restructuring process. Since January 2013, NHMA has housed all "municipal league" services and has been operationally independent. Since September 1, 2013, NHMA has been legally, as well as functionally, a separate nonprofit (and nonpartisan) corporation. Legal advisory services, legislative advocacy, financial advisor services, trainings and publications—and the NHMA Annual Conference—are all provided by nine NHMA staff.

I am pleased to report that on October 17, 2013, the Board of Directors appointed Judy A. Silva to the position of NHMA Executive Director. Judy has worked for NHMA for 21 years and had served as Interim Executive Director since March of 2013. With her knowledge of municipalities, NHMA history, and state government, and in light of her leadership and loyalty to NHMA and its members, she is the ideal choice to lead the organization as we strengthen our identity as the service and action arm of New Hampshire’s municipalities, restore our strong financial base, and serve the unique and ever-changing needs of local government.

Throughout this past year, despite staff cutbacks and some uncertain times, NHMA staff have remained strong advocates for municipal government and committed to maintaining the outstanding level of service NHMA members have come to expect. While there were internal challenges, NHMA’s provision of services to municipalities continued seamlessly.

NHMA’s ability to provide the services it does and to have the success it has in the legislature depends on the continued support of its members—New Hampshire’s cities and towns. NHMA exists to serve its members and can do that most effectively with strong member participation.

On behalf of the NHMA board, I thank you for your continued membership and support of NHMA. I hope you will be able to take advantage of the excellent educational and networking opportunities provided by the NHMA Annual Conference. Please feel free to contact me and/or Judy with any questions or feedback you may have.

Sincerely,

Steve Fournier, Chair

NHMA Board of Directors
